Dubai Fashion Week - Islamic Art & Architecture : The Spring Summer 2010 Collection
Debut Collection : Inspired From Islamic Art & Architecture of Dubai
A Collection -Inspired by the Islamic Art and Dubai Architecture
Shrekahnth’s debut collection was first presented at Dubai Fashion Week in Festival City. The collection used beautiful Islamic designs and the emerging metropolitan architectural scene in Dubai as the design blueprint for the collection. Each look exhibited a silhouette of a short dress, kaftan, and thobe full length with a blend of short and full sleeves.
This collection was exemplary in that the prints used sophisticated Islamic geometric patterns, the ubiquitous keffiyeh texture, andoblique references to Dubai landmarks like the Burj Khalifa and Burj Al Arab. Furthermore, many prints blend the traditional Arabic motifs with modern fashion and sculpted Dubai architectural landmarks and designs Mid-century modern architecture Dubai is now steeped in.
Modest Cuts with Swarovski pearls and Crystals hand embroidered
Styles were designed using soft, flowy fabrics such as silk chiffon, satin, and crepe. Short skirts in modest styles and ombre leggings with high necklines, capped sleeves, and a defined waist were also showcased. These garments were stylish and culturally respectful.
All the Swarovski crystal stickons, pearls, and crystal embroideries were done by hand; they included necklines and collars embroidered using Swarovski pearls bordered with crystal stickons placed on the center of the Islamic art prints. These pearls and crystals were intricately hand embroidered and did not distract from the prints. The colors were gentle pinks, dark blacks, beige, and some blue, which were taken from traditional Middle Eastern fabrics.
This first collection marks Shrekahnth’s evolving design narrative, synthesizing prints based on heritage with a distinctive Islamic identity and the essence of urban beauty from Dubai.
